There's been a bit of chat recently about our next outing and a Summit Camp seems to be a common request.

I would like to suggest Saturday 15th January, coming home Sunday 16th.

As for location, I personally have never been over Meelmore or Meelbeg so we could possibly consider these summits, setting off from Meelmore Lodge, which is handy for safe parking.

Feel free to suggest other summits and we can take a vote.

Lenny, I see you suggested Cavehill in another thread.  This would be ok for a Stealth Bivvi with smaller numbers, but I think we should stick to the Mournes for this one!

Register your interest below and I look forward to hearing your summit suggestions  :)

I'm not bothered about which summit although i have camped on Bearnagh so any other would get my vote!

I'm in on this one. If the weather turns really nasty at least we'd have the shelter of the col between Meelmore and Meelbeg if we're planning a summit camp on one of them

Count me in, but would prefer a later start as I am on a paddling course that morning. Meelmore or Meelbeg would suit me as I haven't climbed them in years..

I'm game for Meelmore as I don't think I've been on the summit of it yet.  Might as well make the first trip up an overnighter ;)

We've been to the Caves quite recently and this one is intended to be a summit camp.  I've done a quick tot of the votes and it looks like Meelmore has taken Pole Position:

Dowser - Meelmore
Redleader - Meelmore
Lenny - Meelbeg/Donard
Tim - Meelmore/Meelbeg
666pack - Meelmore
Shamara - Meelmore/Meelbeg
Suspect Monkey - Meelmore

So the public has spoken and Meelmore Summit it is, on the 15th January 2011.  Meeting at Meelmore Lodge, times to be comfirmed.

This one should be a lot of fun.  Don't forget your fire logs!!!

sounds good to me :-)

Is this going to be heading up late Saturday afternoon and back early Sunday morning? Or are you guys planning a longer walk?

My plan is just a quick overnighter, leaving late Saturday afternoon and back home Sunday morn.  Probably leaving from Meelmore Lodge sometime between 3 & 4pm.  Some folk who fancy doing a bit more walking usually head up a bit earlier and just rendezvous at the campsite.

I'll potentially be on a quickie too, prob aiming to leave Meelmore late afternoon and back as soon as I can drag my hungover ass out of the bivi :D We'll just pick a spot and be on the usual radio channel for anyone walking a longer route. Plus we could possibly leave a couple of walkie talkies in the Meelmore cafe.
