Title: Hello
Post by: Losthead on May 23, 2017
Hey all. Just joined and wanted to say hi. Into my mountain biking, bit of kayaking and being outdoors. Going to get myself kitted outed with some camping gear before the weekend and plan to spend a couple of nights camping this weekend with the wife and kids. I would really love to do some wild camping but no idea where to start, Kids are young and can't trek too far so we have decided to do a camping park like Rostrevor or Castlewellan as a first outing. I'm open to any other suggestions if anyone has them? Thanks :)

Hi and welcome to the forum!
I'd say you're in the right place for wild camping. If you need any tips/locations etc, especially when bringing the kids, just post it on the forum and I'm sure someone here can help.
I'd say that you are best sticking with your plan of a normal campsite at least for the first time. It'll be so much easier to bail if you have forgotten anything or find yourself in need of extra equipment.
Hope the weekend goes well for you! (check the forecast)

As Heggs said in the earlier post Losthead it would be the right way to go being the first outing.
Oh and welcome to the forum ;) ;D

Welcome. Probably best to try car camping before strapping your tent to your back and taking off for a summit ;) If you want to avoid the most widely known camp spots you could try Meelmore Lodge or Bloody Bridge campsites.
