Bullseye Bivvy Trip
« on: January 22, 2013 »

Sat/Sun 2/3rd February 2013

We're thinking it's time to shake things up a bit, there's been too much sitting around a comfy fire souping Scotch and talking about the war! With this in mind I present the Bullseye Bivvy™.

The plan is a random Mournes trip, we pick an area by some means (good old fashioned dartboard seems best) and that's where we head for an overnighter. We find the closest secure car park, meet on the day and decide where seems best to head and camp and by what route. It doesn't need to be super strenuous or involve peaks, we just want a means to get out somewhere new and waken up with some different scenery.

With that in mind, suggestions, recommendations and views welcome! Post your interest below.

NB, although this is called the Bullseye Bivvy we'll be intending to make sure it's also tent friendly but Bullseye Tent didn't have quite the same ring!

Get off your arses people, no excuses, let's get out and have some proper fun!

Current Potentials:
Jonno
Dowser
Spud
Mourneman
Matthew
Aragorn
Landyliam

Current Planned Route and Spot - destination : J 25254 26042

Top idea... Throw a Dart at the map and away we go.  Will be nice to get off the beaten track for a change and practice some navigation skills.

Count me in  :D

Does it count as cheating if your an actual dart thrower lol  8)

I'd love to go but I'm a few bits of gear short still before I can start camping out. However, I would recommend a wee spot right on the largest meander of the annalong river, I don't have a map on me to give the co-ordinates, but it is just north-west of rocky mountain, its hard to miss on a map. It can be tricky enough to find while walking and the surrounding area can be very marshy from my past experience but there is an area on that bend where you could easily fit 4-5 tents, its like a wee sanctuary of harder ground which looks like its been grazed by sheep or used by sheep to sleep. Also Slieve Muck and near lough shannagh theres some great spots with views that are underrated.

Hmm. How close to the Mournes do you live. You might be joining us whether you like it or not if the dart lands where your garden is on the map :P ;)  ;D

You'd need to be a bad dart thrower to hit Liam's house based on yer target area! Lol when is the dart being thrown?

You may underestimate the skills of the potential thrower :)

Not sure when the "big throw" will be. If there's enough interest we might make an event out of it. If not I'll remove the picture of Piers Morgan from my dartboard and do it at home and make sure there's some photographic evidence!

I'm really looking forward to this one.  I have talked about exploring the Mournes for some time now but have found myself opting for quick overnighters all too often  :(

Think for this one we have to remember that we could end up sleeping almost anywhere.  Obviously we will try and find a great camp site with a source of water, and a view, close to where the dart lands but, if there's nothing like around, you will have to be well prepared and have everything in your rucksack that you will need for the night.  Think of it as training for when you might get stuck in the hills sometime.

Might be an idea to pair up with somebody too and share a bit of equipment and food.  No need for 10 people, 10 stoves, 10 frying pans and 10 packets of sausages etc

PS... Does anybody actually have a dart we can use  ???

We should defo all share kit more. It makes no sense for everyone to bring individual stuff, even 2 or 3 people sharing stuff like stoves and food can make a dramatic difference on how much you need to bring and more importantly, what luxuries you can afford to throw in. Plus it's always an opportunity to check try other gear and see how other people like to do things.
