Just read this on a different forum, and whilst good old Stormont would deal with our issues and rights I thought it probably worth supporting if only to get the ideas raised with government.

Just had my attention drawn to this petition: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/WildCampingCRoW/ and figured there would probably be a few more people here who would like to sign it.

The petition aims to extend the Countryside and Rights of Way act 2000 to include areas where wild camping and bushcraft may be practiced. The following information is given by the petition creator:

Quote:
The freedom to roam, or everyman's right is the general public's right to access certain public or privately owned land for recreation and exercise. While a Swedish style "Allmansrätten" may not be practical here in the UK there is no public wilderness where wild camping is allowed, let alone camp fires. The argument of damage to the countryside by wild camping holds little weight when much of our natural wilderness has been handed over to honeypot style tourism and/or agricultural and forestry purposes. I ask the Prime Minister to add extend the CRoW act to include areas where wild camping and campfires can be practiced on a “Do not disturb, do not destroy” basis and that some of these sites be within our National Park boundaries. This is important for recreational purposes and to keep in touch with the methods practiced by our ancestors which minimise harm to the natural world.
Slightly concerned that the text states that:
Quote:
here in the UK there is no public wilderness where wild camping is allowed
and clearly wild camping IS allowed in Scotland  Still figure there is no harm in signing though to hopefully improve access in England, Wales and N Ireland.

There is pleasure in the pathless woods, There is rapture on the lonely shore, There is society where none intrudes, By the deep sea and the music in its roar; I love not man the less, but Nature more

they'll never allow it.
it's hard enough to prosecute the spides for setting fire to stuff without giving their lawyers a good excuse.

I have too. Can't see it making much difference - I don't think the Gov ever listen to the online petitions - it's just spin.
Still, you have to make yourself heard.

I'm signatory number 28.

I've signed a few of those petitions in the past and they always come back with some long-winded excuse why nothing can change.

They didn't even take us seriously when we petitioned them to make Jeremy Clarkson Prime Minister!  :-\

Im not sure this would actually make a difference for Northern Ireland.

Unlike England and Scotland we have no "right to roam" possibilities.
This is because there is no public land in the North.
Its all owned by someone (yep, true!) and therefore you cant technically go onto it unless you have permission

Thats what I thought was the case anyways?  ???

Is there any point signing it?
It does us no good whatsoever - we have no public right to roam land!   :-\
