Title: Slievelamagan pupper summit camp. Mourne mountains.
Post by: NIPupper on November 27, 2017
25-26 November 2017. Carrick little to lamagan via binnian-lamagan col and back via cove lamagan-col.
Sleet overnight. cold morning but weather improved throughout the day. Got to check out the new path being constructed at binnian-lamagan col.

A very different slant from most of the trips that have been posted. Fair play to you and to the dogs.  We've only had a wee dog for a few weeks and we had her up Cave Hill at the weekend.  With the state she was in I can't imagine sharing a tent with her!

Thanks for sharing.

I wasn't too far away from you mate, I got up on Sat night in the dark to Annalong valley. I was hoping for a frosty one but it never got down that cold.
I stuck up a pic below, taken at 8.30am on the Sunday, don't know where you were at that point but I'm sure it wasn't far away lol.
Well done on a summit camp though
All the best

yea, have learnt the hard way that a bivvy bag is a must. puppers like to jump in puddles just before bed time!

Nice one. Lamagan is an exposed summit with no Mourne wall to tuck behind. You must have had fairly light wind overnight?
Nothing like waking up to a bit of white in the winter. I got a small bit of snow a couple of weeks back on Meelmore summit.

nice meelmore camp. been planning on camping there for a while. allways nice to have a shelter hut which don't smell like piss. thinking of you donard.
the Summit specific forecasts on that new met office thing

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/mountain-forecasts/mourne-mountains

said ~38mph but it was only around 20mph most of the night. about 3 or 4am i was woken to find my tent poles being bent in some strange way by the wind. so a bit stronger for a little bit, but all good.
yea, it's good to get some winter wonderland. cheers

That's excellent, the hounds seem to be enjoying every second of it and I'm sure having two mobile hot water bottles kept the tent cosy! Well done, really enjoyed it.

cheers, yea the self powered hot water bottles are great. they even feature automatic adjustment when you roll over in the middle of the night!

Isn't a 'self-powered' hot water bottle just a pee bottle  ;)  Maybe a bit hard to achieve when crammed in with a couple of dogs.  Must look up the proper bottles you refer to.

ha

was thinking more along the lines of self-propelled artillery. should be self-propelled hot water bottles then. pretty warm in any case. when it really cold they crawl on top of one another. if your hands are cold just stick them between the hounds. super warm.
