6 Berth Tent...
« on: April 17, 2011 »

After our Scouts trashed our leaders tent last night, we are looking for a new tent for Summer Camp this year...

Needs to be;
  • at least 6 berth, preferably split into 3 x 2 berth rooms
  • Large common area
  • Less than £250

Suggestions on a postcard to the usual address please...

We had the young ones away on an overnight...

Let all 9 of them all sleep together in leaders tent without the sleeping pods, and the leaders slept in hike tents on the far side (as far away from noise as possible) of the field...

Stuck zip, then they pulled it so much they broke zip, tore material and snapped  a pole...

 Blessing in disguise really, cause I hated that tent, and now we've an excuse to replace it...

Awesome. Scouting is such a good thing for kids. Although I drove by a handful from our local troop this evening and they were having a crafty fag round the back of the church hall. Takes me right back :)

We bought a Gelert Horizon 6 man tent a couple of weeks ago.  Has the three seperate compartments and is totally the best tent I have had in years.  We got ours on amazon for 168.76 plus delivery which ws cheap and quick.  Taking it to Donegal this weekend, it is also big enough to stand up in if thats what your looking for.  You wont get better for the money.

Hope this helps.

How about a Khyam Ontario 8. Bigger than a 6 man but with four sleeping pods, two of them completely separate and the other two divided by a curtain. It's a flexi pole tent, but very popular and pretty cheap considering it's spec.

We got a few Quecha 6.3s from Decathlon last year for going to Peak 2010.  Pods are a bit on the small side for large scouts (my 6' middlest was a bit too tall) but OK for your average scout.  They have 3 pods which sleep 2 on mats but only just fit 2 on airbeds if you finish blowing them up in the pod (- sigh, at least it was lateral thinking and they didn't rip it).  The middle is a decent enough size because the pods are sideways IYKWIM.  Only real downside is that they don't come with any floor covering for the living bit, but if your scout troop is anything like ours, dead tent liners isn't something you're short of!

They're on the website for £169.99.

Kat I think that sometimes a lack of groundsheet is a good thing. I have my lovely sewn in groundsheet currently covered in muddy dog prints and foot prints and the only thing I can do is pitch the damn thing and mop it out.

I'm doing something similar with my hotel (8 berth Outwell).  It was in the hayshed all winter and smells of tomcat so it's being hosed down in the garden.  Would be much easier to clean if it all actually came apart ...  Not nearly as easy to pitch tho ;)
