After having a few camps this year in very poor weather I finally had some luck over the past week with two camps. Continuing around all of the Mourne 500's I camped on Slieve Muck's southern peak last Monday night, right on the edge of the cliffs to the east, and on Cove Mountain summit on Friday night. That is where I managed to snap one of my tent poles.
Good clear weather for both camps. After the camp on Slieve Muck I went back to the car over Ott Mountain.
On Saturday, on the way back from Cove Mountain to Carrick Little I hiked over Slieve Lamagan. I hadn't been on the summit of Lamagan since the Mourne seven sevens challenge in 2016. I love that peak. The views on Saturday morning were fantastic.

As close as I could get to the summit cairn on Cove Mountain. Not easy finding a good spot for the tent there.

Looks like a perfect couple of days :)

Oh did you now ;D :P
Hooray for a view Sean! That is a couple of nice camps right there. What happened with the pole? Was it the wind?
-
Yeah, the tent pole, not the wind but one of those what was I thinking moments.
There wasn't a lot of space to pitch the tent on the summit among the rocks and the holes. When I did find a little space and put the tent up I realised that there was a hole under one side but I had a little space to the other side so I could move it slightly if I removed a couple of pegs.
Through total laziness I tried to slide the tent 6 inches to the side with my backpack still inside and whatever way I pulled on the pole it just snapped. It appears that the poles are strong except for the little bit where they join together. That is what snapped.
I have a new original pole in the post though for £20 delivered so it's not the end of the world.

cool, the views from slieve muck look great, i've been wanting to camp up there for a while.

That's a bummer about the tent pole, mind you if those are the only running costs it has served you well. That point is exactly where the poles have gone for me before.

It's a long time ago but I enjoyed a camp on Slieve Muck. The views to the rest of the Mournes are great. Must get back there again.
