Camp Site at Bloody Bridge

Has anyone stayed at the campsite near Bloody Bridge?  How was your stay?

It was overnight camp for the mourne mountain marathon last year and grand apart from the Donkeys.............!!!!!!!!  lol

I've never even worked out where it is. Is it true they have a handful of big tents with bunks in?

I looked at it in June last year.  There weren't many folk there.  Small youth group in the lower field and a 3 or 4 other tents in the upper section.  There's a bit of a slope though.  The toilet block is small but was clean (then).  There was a concrete plinth under construction which if can remember correctly was for some type of group shelter.

Spoke briefly with the owner who was obviously looking at this from an alternative to farming.  The road or rather lane up to it is rough and anything other than a 4x4 could be ruined.

The entrance to it is adjacent and to the right of the gateway to the Bloody Bridge pathway.  Here's the link which you can have a look at

 I stayed at this site last spring during the week so I was alone. I spent the entire time worrying how I was going to get my Smart car back down the hill thankfully it has an automatic stabilisation function..

I definitely wont take my car again.....

The site tends to get busy at the usual times and fires are allowed in certain places. The owner supplies bags of logs for a couple of quid. Judging by the amount of beer tins in the foreplaces it could be quite noisy.

It's probably the same with any site that's reasonably accessible by car that it'll be attractive to the BBC, the Barbeque & Beer Campers hence the likelihood of excessive noise.  Meelmore Lodge seems to attract them too.

If you want silence why not walk another 15mins into the mournes?

Silence is golden.  So yes I tend to look for the more remote and peaceful places only using the more popular places when it's a necessity.  Lietrim Lodge car park is another great place for ease of access to the mountain, good camping places but noisey.  However another short walk takes you away from the noise.  I suppose earplugs would help! :)

hi stayed there a few times last year good wee site for taking the kids bouldering and walks in the mourns there is a tented bothy for walkers with bunks and cooking gear showers/toilets well kept a comunial fire pit and sand pile and stones for your own camp fires was never too busy/noisey when i was there far better than meelmore more like wild camping with lots of extras ideal for starting off or with kids owner seems a nice bloke wants the place more for walkers/hikers than saturday night yobs he also owns quite abit of land in the mourns and will allow wild camps to the right people entrance is right beside bloody bridge style i got a bmw 330 coupe up in to it abet with all passenagers out. hope this helps........
