So the new year has come around and it's pretty bloody cold outside but nonetheless, what would you all like to do or achieve this year?
I actually only got off the sofa and started this outdoors malarky on 30th December 2008 so I'm only at the end of my first year and I think I really got plenty done in my first 12 months.
Here are my first thoughts:
- I was disappointed in how little canoeing I got done last year and I'd like to do a few overnight river type trips and get some more general practice.
- I like to go camping. Sometimes it's nice to just sit round the fire and shoot the breeze without feeling like you should have walked 20 miles or climbed a few peaks on the way there
- I'd like to get a bit more hill fit and do a few longer runs in the Mournes
- I'd like to explore Northern Ireland a bit more. The Mournes are excellent but there are plenty of other places that are good to walk in.
- I'd like to do a summer night sleeping in a shelter that I (we) built
- I'd like to do some stealth camping (shhhh!) in places where you're not really supposed to camp. Somewhere like Ballypatrick Forest.
- I'd like to learn to fish. And I mean the type of fishing where you actually catch something!
That's all that comes to mind at the mo.
Edit:
Now that I've started thinking about it I'm well excited. Lets start doing some planning!

yeah gettin proper hill fit is top of my list. Me and MG1 have already start running ever other night and really wanna blitz this years MMM.
But I have to say jonno thats a pretty Comprehensive list and I'd be keen to spend more time in 2010 doing all those things.

I've a few things in the back of my mind that I'd like to do this year:
- Loose two stone in body weight! It's a lot cheaper than titanium, although I don't find it as easy as walking in to a shop!
- Backpack the West Highland Way.
- Check out more mountains in Ireland; Wicklow Mtns, MacGillycuddy's Reeks etc.
- Learn to canoe/kayak.
- Some local wild camping.
- Get my Honey Stove to light using nothing but wood and a fire steel!
- I'd love to enter an adventure race this year.
If I get at least two/three done off that list I will be happy. It's not very adventurous, but I guess its realistic :)

I'd like to learn to canoe
Build my own canoe
Sleep out in a hammock under a tarp
Cook using an open wood fire & stove
Really hope to do all these and maybe squeese in a canoe camping trip up the Bann

I'm well into planning a mountain bike trip from St. Bees to Robin Hood's Bay (west to east across England)
BUT I might have to have surgery on my dodgy arm followed by 8 weeks in plaster, so it might have to be postponed for a year.
-
I've been thinking bout coast to coast cycle this year Maybe from Donegal to Newcastle. But still in the very early planning stages, haven't even got the bike yet :D

Get out a hell of a lot more than last year. On my own or in a group just as long as I get out.
