Was up and down Carrantuohill in June, great scenery but didn't stick about too long as we were in a bit of a rush. Read about it here http://ulsterwalker.blogspot.com/2009/10/irish-four-peaks-day-2.html

If I was to head down again I'd like to like to spend more than the two nights down there, it seems like a bit of a waste to drive for 6/7 hours to come back after a couple days.

That route looks fairly interesting, and definately something to consider!

From a planning point of view, I'd prob drive down to Cronin's Yard and leave you're cars there. There's a wee cottage, cafe, toilets and showers and cars should be fairly safe there

Chris are there any scramble/climbs in the Mournes that are anything close to that howling ridge?

I'm not to sure on the scrambling side of things but there are a lot of crags and quite a lot of easy climbs.

This howling ridge has gotta be done. It looks amazing, climbing wise I have a spare male and female harness - so anytime people want to go climbing, im up for it - although ill only be able to belay people as ive got an injury. I tried to cut my thumb off, but only got halfway through.

Watched that vid looks sweet! Its not a technical climb as far as I can see, they seem to be wearing boots the whole way.

From the video it looks like you could prob go up it without ropes if you were confident enough, that said you don't know what's not been shot.
