accsessible roads (snow etc)
« on: April 01, 2013 »

I was thinking about a trip to Doan (Easter Monday) and just wondered if anyone knows if the Slievenaman rd was clear ,and if the OTT car park was accsessible at the moment. If not what about the rest, Carrick Little etc.
Any advice appreciated.

Fred had phoned meelmore prior to us deciding Donard and they said their carpark was clear and so was the road. But I think it's single lane and if you meet someone expect a long reverse to a passing point. I don't know about the rest

Cheers guys for the advice ,
made a call to meelmore myself before we left and they seconded Chucks report regarding Slievenaman rd.
still plenty of snow about but it was a biting cold wind and i had the family with me so settled for the black route round Tollymore ,great views up round the Drinns , and in the spirit of NI Wild lit a small camp fire up at the wall to warm us up while we had lunch. :)

Ott Mountain and Happy Valley carparks are still blocked off with snow. So only a few (sensible) road side spaces are available so get down early.

A road in County Down has been closed due to an avalanche risk.

Police have said the Kilkeel Road, in Hilltown, also known as the Spelga Pass, may remain closed for some time.

i drove down it the other day and thought it looked a bit dodgey so even snapped a wee pic  :)

not if its the danger spot or not  ???
