Coleman Avior x2 Cleats
« on: March 26, 2012 »

I always wondered what the little metal things on the end of the guy lines were, until one evening I realised they were some type of locking cleat to tighten/loosen the guy lines.

Now, I took out the tent yesterday to give it a good airing and to see if I could get my head around the concept.  The cleats are very hard and stiff to move, like you have to physically thread the guy line into the cleat, to pass it through the other side to lock it in place, a time consuming job and not something I wish to do in bad weather.

Is there something I'm missing, surely there is an easier way to adjust them, a certain way to twist them perhaps?  Or should I invest in some of these instead (I've just sneezed on my monitor  :-\) - http://www.clamcleat.com/cleats/cleats.asp?menuid=7 ?

I've added some pictures to help with what I'm trying to describe.  The second picture is the flip side of the cleat.

The only downside to going outdoors is having to come back inside.
