I know it's Friday night but has anyone got any trips planned into the Mournes this week-end, day walk or overnight?  I'm toying with the idea of getting out but am undecided as to what to do yet. :-\

Thanks for the offer.  Hope the weather is kind for you.

I'll probably just opt for a car camp at Bloody Bridge and a walk from there. :)

Decisions, decisions. Going to go to Silent Valley and walk up to the top end of Ben Crom reservoir at the Shelter Stone for an overnighter.  Have talked about doing it for quite a while so now's the time to do it.  Hoping the weather doesn't block out the stunning views.

The weather has been orrible in Antrim here so ive a fair idea that the mournes may have been a bit rough.

Yes I'm alive, in more way's than one.  I have been ravaged by midges.  Look like I have the measles or chicken pox!

It was quiet windy and during the night there were gusts that pushed the tent in a bit.  The rain wasn't heavy, just constant fine rain driven by the wind.

There was a D of Ed group, a couple and another solo camper all at the head of the reservoir and all suffered from the midges attacking. Hateful little things.

Anyway another trip to get me through the drudgery of the incoming week(s).

Thanks for your concern, how'd did your week-end go?

Flip,  the weather that weve had this weekend i thought you wouldve took a real pounding out there, my nice was camping around there for her DOE and said the midges were a nitemare, the little blighters can really ruin your trip.
The closest i got to anything outdoorsy was a trip to cotswolds to get a map of donegal. I came away empty handed, were doing the glover walk in two weeks but on the maps of that area their only 1:50 000, and the route is split in half, giving you Errigal, lough Altan but thats really it, so you have to buy two different maps. Frustration!

Hi kayak, thats very kind of you, i thought it would be hard to find one with the whole of the route on it from Muckish to Errigal. Where did you pick yours up from?

I bought it in Cotswolds and I think it is 1:50 one that you were talking about.
To be honest I was disappointed with the limited range of maps for Donegal..

Yeah ive tried a few places but i just think that detailed maps of donegal dont really exist.

Cotswolds will be the death of me, nearly every time i go in that place i come out with something lol.

I have most of North Donegal on 1:50000 .. The IBSN;s are
ISBN: 1-901496-09-0  - NW Donegal
ISBN: 1-901496-19-8 - Central Donegal & Tyrone
ISBN: 1-901496-18-X - East Donegal & Derry
ISBN: 1-901496-14-7 - Donegal Nort Central

And you can get them online Here => http://www.osi.ie/en/starticle/special-interest-maps.aspx?sId=7

Red, I parked in Silent Valley and walked to the Northern end of Ben Crom reservoir/Shelter Stone. That's the third time I've walked in that way, first camp though. Next time I think I'll come in from Meelmore Lodge. I will also be bringing a flame thrower for the midges. Bear says they're nice toasted!
