Winter walk 27-NOV-2010
« on: November 27, 2010 »

I fancy a snow walk today....thinking of Donard (if there is a view from the top) or Commedagh, or Chimney Rock...

Probably heading up from Donard Car Park (because it will be clear of snow and accessible), otherwise leave from Bloody Bridge Car Park.

Anyone fancy it?

Prob. starting out 1100/1200. Leave a message here, I'll be listing on channel six as well.

ps. metcheck has it -2 in Newcastle at the moment, with 10MPH winds....gonna be cold...

Was indeed a great hiking day. Not enough snow to make a snowman but you could have had a good snowfight at the top (energy allowing) would have been a good one for the brandy pad I reckon. We only did commedagh, was one of those days where you kept taking a layer off then later started piling them back on again as was getting cold near the top, then the sun would come out and warm you up again :) showed chuck the route down from commedagh via shanslieve which was snow covered heather most of the way, much better than that ice covered path we came up. Will post some pics soon.

Sounds like a great day out.

I'm just back from my own hiking trip in Tyresta National Park, which is just south of Stockholm. 12km through snowy forest with snow 1.5 feet deep and places. The temperature when I left my flat this morning was -10°c, and it rose to about -8°c. Needless to say my water bottle froze up pretty quickly after starting my hike which was a bit annoying, but other than that it was great.

Great walk, never come down off Comedagh the way Liam had us do...excellent.

Heading out to work's Christmas do, so no time to uploads pics...but here's a wee shaky cam video of us half way up Glen River path:

Was up Melbeg today. It was great in the snow, loads of drifts.

damn, we picked the wrong mountain  >:(

but there's always the option of an early morning jaunt before the archery tomorrow, but if the forecast is right i shouldn't have to go up the hills to find the snow  ;D

Epic pictures Liam. Looks like a fantastic day for it as well. The contrast in the 3rd pic from the bottom, of the snow on Donard and the green at sea level, plus the blue of the sky look really great.

Great pictures. I was up Cave Hill for a once round and it was snowy and bloody freezing.
