Title: Mid week cycle!!
Post by: MG1 on April 15, 2011
I've managed to get free time and permission ::) for a few hours in the hills. The plan is for a bit of biking.

Starting at Meelmore lodge heading up the trassey to the Hares gap then along the brandy pad. Leaving the brandy pad at the Donard Commadagh saddle, hauling the bike up Commadagh blasting down Shanlieve and slievenamaddy into Donard wood. Then along the ranger trail till it meets up with the single trail that runs along the wall and the back of Tollymore. Hop over the wall onto the Mourne way and follow this back to Meelmore.

I'm leaving Meelmore no later than 10.00.

Open invite.

Wed 20th

I'm going tomorrow. I'll not be able to go next week.

I'm planning on bringing Owen camping next week.

Sounds like a class route MG, although mid-week trips are definitely out for me.  Think I might dust down my bike soon and break myself back in gently with a few laps of Craigavon Lakes some weekend :)

You should mate. If you wanna hit the lakes give me a bell.

I'm going to sort out my brakes tonight need to change the back pads and tighten the front disc. I don't want them to fail on me coming down Commadagh ;D

Yeah, if I'm heading down will give you a shout!

My brakes could do with a bit of attention as well, they've been pretty dire from day one as they are just cheap OEM hydraulics.  Although on a plus side you don't really need brakes for Craigavon Lakes, just keep 'er lit :D

true mate.

If the plans for this super centre in Craigavon go ahead there building it right on top of most of the trail. So we use it before we lose it!!

No way, what's the super centre?!  The trails around Craigavon Lakes are class... I know they aren't technical but you can get a real head of steam up on them!

When I was walking through Tollymore at the weekend I got a good look at some of the trails there, found some awesome looking sections.  I've been told there are plans to open official trails in Tolly though.  Anyone know anything about them?

They are planning on combining all 3 local leisure centres.

Olympic size swimming pool
climbing wall
Indoor 5 a side
also adding more watersports for the lakes.

My Commadagh epic got binned. On Wed morning i got delayed and would have made it to Meelmore till about 11.30. Which didn't give me enough time for the route. Maybe we could get a date and more of us could do this route.

I headed for a few laps of the lakes trail which was great crack. I had a bit of a head on me since i missed out on the Mournes, so i  started riding pretty agressively. I soon got this knocked out of me when i hit a small tree root and the lost front tyre. Spinning right round and landing in a heap. Dusted myself off and blasted on. Only to come off again when my handle bar caught a tree knocking me over.

Minus the falls i had great couple of hours on the trail, i even found a couple of sections i have never been on.

I've clipped a few trees there as well :D  There are a couple of quite narrow bits between tree trunks that it's easy to misjudge!
