I've just inherited a dome tent - a Freeman Apollo 220. It seems like a fairly decent double skin dome tent and is quite large. It has a large porch too. I can see no details of it on t'internet except a couple of classifieds that list it as a 2 man - but honestly this tent would easily hold four adults.

It smells like it's been in the garage for a while, but apart from that it's in great condition.

Anyone ever had a Freeman? Anyone ever had an opinion on one?

Anyway it was free, so I'll give it a go at Carnfunnock with my 5 year old son, and see how it goes.

If you have no details on 'waterproof-ness', might be worth putting it up in the garden, sticking your son in it and taking a hose to it.

Will be fun no matter the result

Kyle is right about the hose test!
I've tested waterproof jackets before by putting them on over a dry cotton t shirt and jumping into the shower.
Other than testing a sleeping bag out for size in the hallway that's probably the worst thing the other half has caught me doing

Yeah sounds like a good idea - I'll wait for it to heat up just a little out there first though. I had it up in the dining room today and the wife went mad. She is determined not to camp this year

hi i'm new on here i also have been given a freeman apollo 220 tent only i've no idea how to pitch it can anyone help by telling me how it goes together i'm off in a few weeks on my rebuilt vw trike camping for 2 months and taking the tent so any assistants would be well recieved

Hi Carla and Welcome,
I didn't get instructions either but tried it in the back garden. Here's my attempt at instructions.
- lay the inner tent flat on the ground
- you should have three poles. Lay them on the ground and you have two long ones and a short one.
- insert the two long poles in an 'X' diagonally into the sleeves on the roof of the inner (front left to back right & front right to back left). There are little holes in the tab at each corner to insert the ends of the poles in
- peg it down
- look for the porch and door on the outer tent and throw the outer over the inner tent, lining the outer and inner doors up
- use the little ties inside the outer to attach it to the poles especially at the peak.
- look for the piping sleeve around the door and insert the remaining short pole, putting the ends into the two remaining holes (in the tabs at the front corners of the inner tent.
- peg outer skin down
- extend guy ropes and peg them down.

Hope that helps. It's not time consuming or as hard as I've made it sound.

Tent is large though. Are you going solo?
