Hi my name is Marty and I am interested in doing a bit of canoing with my partner & younger brother. I am hoping that I will eventually progress onto a bit of white water.
I have to say the the upcoming events calender on this site is excellent ;D, its at the bottom of the homepage.

Welcome Marty, excellent to see another canoeist. Is it a canadian or kayak?

Hi Jonno
I would say it would have to be Canadian for now, I used a Canadian on a school trip when I was younger down the Ardeche River in France, excellent experience :). As my younger brothers only 9 I have to go with stability/Canadian, but with a bit more experience I will definitely be on the white rapids.
I am considering the BCU awards 1-3, do you know a good place to start? ???

I have an Old Town Charles River

I've only had it a few months but it's been great fun. I take my 10 year old out all the time - he loves it.
I'm not sure about BCU courses - CANI would be the people to ask. I fancy doing a few courses myself but I'll wait until the weather gets better :)

Thats the type I will be after in a while ( I think ???), where did you pick it up from? How much should I expect to pay?
-
I got mine for £550 2nd hand. It was more than I wanted to pay but I'd been looking for 3 months and it was the first I'd seen so I snapped it up.

Very nice canoe, I think in NI you have to look harder and longer than the rest of the UK for large bulky items like canoes. You could get one shipped in but imagine the £postage :o

I think you'd pay £50 for delivery to Northern Ireland of something as sizeable as a canoe. That said if you were buying new at £800+ I suppose it isn't so much. I've found that Canadians don't appear on the market very much. I'd like to think that it's because they're such fun that no-one ever wants to sell :)
