Title: Mournes 7's August 1st
Post by: carroll on May 14, 2015

    Hi All,

I'm doing the Mourne Mountains 7 Peaks Challenge on the 1st of August. I am looking for a person/s/group to do it with. Anybody available? If so please get in contact.

Many thanks,

Paul

I'd be up for this you wanting to just do a pair or a group?

I've tried this a couple of times alone and there's so many people doing it that you sort of naturally fall into a little group of people going at the same pace, hoping to have ago again this year so could maybe join up with you too.

It looks like there will only be one laid out route this year, so I would imagine it will definitely end up with lots of groups dandering around.

I'm giving this a go this year.

I wonder if someone could advise on footwear.
I have a weak left ankle so it needs to be boots rather than trainers. I have 2 options, my normal medium weight Brasher hillwalking boots or my lightweight Orienteering boots.

My orienteering boots seem to be the obvious choice but they have small carbide studs in the bottom of them. Has anyone done this challenge in shoes with carbide studs? I realise that quite a lot of the walk will be along hard granite paths so perhaps this isn't the best choice? If anyone has done it in studs I would like to know if the studs survived intact and also how much of an annoyance the studs were on hard sections like the Brandy Pad.
