Volunteers for Maintenance
« on: April 28, 2010 »

In todays Down Recorder there's an article about work being done on the path to the summit of Slieve Donard along the glen river. They looking for volunteers to help out on sunday May 2 at 10.30 to 3.30pm. Vounteers should meet at Donard Car Park. It is advised people should book and people interested should call the warden on 028 4375 1467. Anyone interested in helping out?

Anyone know how this worked out?
* Chuck is coloured ashamed: My preparation for a week in Crete had me grounded the whole weekend of this.
On a side note there has been a fair bit of work done on the Bloody Bridge Rover path since I last was near it (lots of new steps and a stile installed). Anyone know if this was part of the same (pre-summer) make-and-mend push?

I've been up Donard plenty but never from the Bloody Bridge side. Must get round to doing it.

I personally think it's the only way 2 go, more like climbing a mountain than the stairs at home  ;)

Tough climb, but you can geocache from the bottom up.... :P

Have to agree with you, HoU, if you really have to climb Donard (IMHO it's just a big old lump you have to slog up...the final push along the Mourne Wall has no redeeming qualities...the whole thing is only made up for by the _**excellent**_ clear day views of Newcastle/Dundrum from the lower cove...ahem..rant over ;D ) the Bloody Bridge River is a much more interesting route to follow: couple of different paths to follow, couple of optional fords to cross, a quarry to explore, loads of man-made and natural shelters/break spots along the way.

On the subject of knee grinding....how hellish is going up the Granite Trail
