Cave Hill
« on: May 09, 2009 »

I've never been to the top of Cave Hill in Belfast so I thought I'd take a trek up. The weather was bad but supposed to get better but unfortunately it didn't - it was windy with rain the whole time. It was worth it for the views from the top though.

Cave Hill looks good how high is it?
Do you ever venture into the Mournes?
Some crackin walks if you know were to start from!

I'm not actually sure how high it is. Plus I started at Belfast Castle so I did drive a good portion of it :)

I'm trying to get into the Mournes more, my real goal is Slieve Donard but I'm a long way from fit enough  ::)

Cavehill is 1200ft.  It's a nice climb, with great views.  It can feel pretty small compared to somewhere like the mournes, and it's also quite packed on public holidays and things, but if you've never been, or you just fancy a few hours climbing out of the city grime for a different perspective on Belfast, I'd definitely recommend the time to visit.  The castle and castle grounds are worth seeing too.
