Kayakgirl wants to escape the midges by heading for a summit camp this sat night, hoping to get along myself and knock this one off my list. Should be a great spot to watch the sun set from. Also there's that WW2 plane wreckage nearby which would be worth looking for next morning.
-
Honestly, would love too. But seeing a band in Belfast on Saturday.
Also, how would this work out regarding climbing on the Sunday?
EDIT: I'll see if I can make this. Fingers crossed.

just about perfect, long walk to tollymore on sunday morning ;D
but its looking like a busy weekend for me, big dinner fri night, long walk on sat morning, climbing on sunday, will be tight but really hope to squeeze this camp in as weather is looking really good for it
-
I'd be up for it. Wouldn't know where to park the car though?
Also, what would be the best way to head up Chimney Rock? I was thinking along the Mourne Wall, then walk north west, to south east along the smooth gradient.
-
I'm now roped in to working the weekend at Ardnabannon.. Might have to do DI on Sat night, will keep you posted.
-
Will drop my number to your inbox guys. Just in case I'm not around to check the forum. Would you mind letting me know if there is any changes to the plans? :)
-
Shall we leave it to next weekend?
-
Honestly don't know. The weather, is looking very flakey. Hail stones one minute then sun shine the next. It's definitely going to be close for me getting up there - by the time I leave Belfast I'm sure it will be at least 6/7pm. Though, this will be the last week I'll be off work for sometime.
-
I'm wondering - apart from LandyLiam and Kayakgirl, did anyone else get the time to do this?
-
looks like no-one made it up, but we're all set to try again this fri (20th) night
-
Ok im in, any other takers for this one?
-
Yup count me in..
-
The only time I don't bring my gear with me from home, and the only time I can make it. Ah well. Maybe next time!

What gear would you need?
-
Pretty much everything to be honest! I was saying to LandyLiam it would have been nice to try out my new sleeping bag.
To be honest with you I cant make it as tomorrow will be a busy day and to get up home and back again in time for Lisa's MOT and then up to Chimney Rock will be tight. Plus I borked her computer so now have that to fix lol.
However please take lots of photos to rub it in. :P
-
Folks im not gonna be able to make this one now, im having to come into work for a while tomorrow.
>:(arghhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Enjoy cus the weather looks great.
-
Sure just leave early.. Wuss..
-
sure you'll be getting up early anyway to make my fry :D
weather looking good, any rain about will die away, min of 5 deg, wind 5mph, chance of a cloudy start to the night but clearing after midnight (although as always in the mournes anything can happen with the cloud)
looking like my first bivvy of the year :) , but may bring tent just in case ::)
so whats for dinner then?
-
What are you bringing and more to the point what are you drinking?
-
i'm not much of a cook so maybe just a little spaghetti and sauce, assuming i can drive by all the takeaways in newcastle without succumbing to temptation! as for drink it'll be a last minute choice in the off licence, always have the dilema of whether to get something tasty like magners, but i'll drink it too fast, or some horrible old beer in which i can make each tin last an hour ???
-
Ooh Magners sounds good.. Haven't had cider since the last camp.
-
well as long as your not trying to get into a hammock you will be allowed cider 8)
-
Woot, woot!!
-
Great night, weather was lovely but it was a hard slog up the hill >:( , arrived at top about 11.15pm (was tempted to pitch up at the saddle instead), then got the dinner on a few beers in me and at 1am went off geocaching :)
Rained a bit during the night with quite a bit of wind and the lichfield treklite tent didn't fair too well, not helped by the fact it wasn't pegged down too well. Ended up with a puddle at the bottom and it felt like a windtunnel inside. But i slept ok and was warm enough (min of 2deg overnight).
Next morning we went off to find another geocache and some WW2 plane wreckage.

Nice pics Liam. Thats another one of your and Shamaras summit list.
We found it quite hard finding a good spot for the tents, granted it was pitch black when we got to the summit, what did youse think? I wonder is it more suited to a bivy? :-\
-
It's definitely more a bivvi summit.. We looked at several places that would be good for bivving..
-
i reckon we could have got at least 1 more tent up at the north torr, bivvying, as always, would open up so many more possibilities, this mountain is particulary rocky, fortunately i had been up here earlier in the week an eyed this place as a possibility, and the wind was blowing in just the right direct :)
-
Lovely photos :)
-
Brilliant photos really put me in the mood for doing that sometime.
-
Good stuff peeps. The view down to the sea is great in the morning, (well the limited glimpses I got of it the last time I was there).
The torr does give great shelter to spend the evening, even offering sufficient protection on a damp night.
Thanks for sharing the pics, I haven't got out this month at all. It feels like a long month!
-
Brilliant photos guys! Would have loved to join you, but there's always later on in the year. :)
LandyLiam, must say the way your tent is flapping around in the wind like that looks like a stingray. :P Looks as if it could do with a couple more anchor points.
Any chance I could get a grid ref regarding that downed plane?
