Here is a great blog to give an idea of what goes on around MTB trail building. The link shows the Rostrevor photos but have a read through the other sections. Some of you conservationists will be happy to hear the lengths they go to to blend the trails in with minimal impact.

Was up there this morning looking good :).Although someone had pulled sign out fired into the river :(

I have heard there is a lot of issues with walkers/mountain bikers/vandals in and around the trails. Typical of this country when something good comes along. This will be amazing when it's finished coupled with all the natural stuff it will put the area on the Map for MTBing for sure.

Yeah looking forward to this opening, hopefully the way forward for other trails about, we've great country side for them and the more the merrier I say...

Davagh Forest Trail Construction has started and Castlewellan is starting soon too. Its taken a long time and a lot of work to get to this stage but hopefully they see the benefits and more come of the back of this.

i think this is finished now?
wouldn't mind picking up a second hand bike to try it
would you need a full downhill bike
-
It's not finished until April. Some trail sections are completed but we aren't supposed to be ridding then until it's open.
There are hundreds on them every week though. :o
You won't need a Downhill bike. A Hardtail would be fine. There is two DH trails finishing soon but even them are pretty manicured and smooth.
Check out www.mtbrider.com classifieds for local second hand bikes.

There is a good local buy and sell for cyclists only on facebook if you search. Plenty of Mountain bikes on it. Also MourneBikes are offering hire bikes. Might be an idea to hire one for a day then decided.
