Wheres the need for eVent or g-tex if you aren't moving? Seems rather excessive!

Because your body still releases moisture when your asleep. If it didn't you could just sleep in a bin bag no problem!

expensiVe  ::)

What makes you think its any more expensive than goretex?!

Granted, but surely you're gonna have a big chunk of insulation that will absorb the moisture before the membrane gets a chance to do nout?
Obviously a breathable waterproof material is gonna be better than non breathable, but surely the level of breathability these 'top' fabrics provide is somewhat wasted?
Just a thought?

Think I'd rather buy some material and make my own custom one than spend that amount of money on a g-tex one!

I've been pretty impressed with the Rab Storm bivvy which can be had for around £50.  Its only slightly heavier than the Alpkit Hunka, but has so much more space inside.  It was certainly breathable when I was zipped fully into it in the rain with only a tiny hole left to breathe through.

The only other bag I really looked at was the Pertex Rab Survival Zone.  I don't think Pertex is as waterproof as the material used in the Rab Storm, but it is meant to be more breathable.  If you are using it under a tarp then I'd go for breathable over waterproof as the tarp acts as a shelter anyway.

Speaking of which... I need a bivvy night... soon :)

I have the Rab ranger and I can not fault it got one good soaking and I stayed dry inside .. No visible signs of any moisture from my breathing etc .
