Bushcraft in Hillsborough Forest
« on: April 28, 2010 »

Found this while walking the dog this morning. Seems that someone was practising their bushcraft skills:

Looked well done, dead tree for centre post, logs around the outside to stop the branches used for walls slipping out. Door mantle was secured in the Y of the two 'door post' branches.

Couldn't see any ropes/string/roots holding the thing together....gave it a nudge and it seemed stable.

I have built a few of these type of shelter and slept in a few, I would normally use these if I have time to build them, they are very comfy if you incorporate a bed of boughs or soft rush and a long log fire. I have stayed in a similar type of shelter for five days when I was on a course in England, I am planning on spending a month or two in one here if I can find a quiet area somewhere without to much public access.
