I'm looking for suggestions for some books I could ask for Christmas.  Something with an outdoors theme.  ???

Here's a few i bought recently,  1. Hillwalking by Steve Long, which is part of the reading material needed for M.L.T or W.G.L -Not a bad read, lots of helpful advice, explains MLT training. 2- THE ULTIMATE HILLWALKING SKILLS HANDBOOK by Alan Hinkes,to me this is my favourite read, everything broken down for the reader, nice diagrams, cover camp-craft,climbing,hiking,navigation,and lots more.3-  A BOOT UP THE MOURNES by Steve Hanna, some nice walks with photo's included, all in all a good pocket sized book.4-MOUNTAIN SKILLS by Peter Hill, found this quite hard to read, cover all types of climbing, althought good part about micro-navigation and weather5-6 THE MOURNE WALKS B-both by Paddy Dillon, second one is the updated ,not a bad read, well written, inludes some walks in the Cooleys, but of all these books  the Hillwalking skills stand out by far

Thank you for replying and (jsurginor) for taking the trouble to do the photos.

I've read the Banjo Bannon book, very good read.  My kids bought me Mud, Sweat & Tears - Bear Grylls also very good.

I'll keep the other suggestions in mind.

Thanks

I have read a few of Paddy Dillons books. I have met Paddy and my God, can he talk for both Ireland and the UK... Also Paddy does write good walking books. I would recomend them. Banjo Banno's book is good and the one I am reading is a book by Paul Clements called a Heigh of Nonsence.  Like all the best travel books this is a journey of self-discovery and of community, a reflection on man’s real and mystical connection with nature. This is a fine adventure, a travelogue delighting in ambiguities which wind their way through the book like a river through the countryside and culture which Clements loves. It all makes for delightful reading. http://www.paulclementswriting.com/reviews_height_of_nonsense.shtml

I may buy some of these for myself, looking for something to read after the Bear Grylls autobiography.

Book of the Bivvy by Ronald Turnbull and one of Ray Mears UK Bushcrafting books. Also, Song of the Paddle is quite enlightening if you're passingly interested in canoeing.
