This hill has been on  my mind for a while now and I really want to give it a go any one have any possible route ideas. I have found the below route(meelmore & Bernagh  being optional) but am open to any advice and some company any takers.

Seems if you head up the trassey track and head for the saddle @ Bernagh/meelmore apart from the boggy bits seam quit straight forward.

MG1 are you up for it?

I was standing on Hares Gap looking at Ben Crom a few weeks back remarking on what an excellent view it was. Didn't see any clear paths tho. Your route doesn't seem too hard as there are no mountains to climb, just walk round.. How long is the route?

Not too sure about distance at the minute I'll have to pull the map out tonight but It looks very doable. I know that it takes no more than 1 hour to reach the saddle so I would estimate 3-4 hours round trip head down yomp but I would like to take my time at it may be  have a bit of a cook up on the summit ridge.

If it wasn't too hard I'd be game to do it instead of Slieve Bernagh on the 27/28th (especially if it was easier than Bernagh, phew :D).

I tell what we'll make that call on the day.....

But I think gettin one of the bigger hill outta the early is a real confidence booster.

On My first (of two) failed Mourne Wall atempt Bernagh Had me beat once I saw it form the summit of Commedagh and I pulled out. :o
When I went back later in the year I had to get up Bernagh because it had seemed so impossible and found that it alot less of a struggle as my mind had made it out to be!

When it came to it Bernagh was a complete joy evern through the wind and hail.  ;D

I think we should keep our date with Bernagh and then take Ben crom at our leisure.

Splendid... I'll bow to your experience but just re-iterate that if I'm sick or cry and go home you have to not hold it against me :D

Looks pretty good would be up for that also wouldn't mind getting a look at that Gullie on Ben Crom as seen on your first picture. Do you think it would be possible to scramble up to it ?

That's an idea! We'll have to get the map out. In the pic is that a road running round silent valley if it is it looks like a great access point.

It looks to be. I would mind trying a walk from the Hares gap along the reservoir s and coming out Annaghlong side?

I think for a fact finding mission the trassey to the meelmore saddle looks really handy. we could blast down the hill,  scramble up the gully and head  back the way we came.

If you haven't been yet, look at Ott carpark especially for Jonno up to the wall and down to the plain across to Doan and round to Ben Crom. Did this route without going up Doan one sunny day Geocaching. Pushed it all the way as I had to be back to pick up kids from school took me 3 hours there and back and I'm not fit.

Yeah I'd been looking as the Ott Track as an alternative, but as I was close I'd like to knock Doan of my list.
