Plus Donard has an incredibly well defined path. Might be different if it was off piste.

walking  in the dark, heavy rain, gusts of wind up to 67mph and low cloud level, 5 hours I feel is rather optimistic..... I know I tend to have a belt and braces approach to hill walking it suits me though. I too love a challenge, but I feel todays weather is way OTT to be doing a nite hike in the mournes   :)

you dont really need anything that you couldn't fit in your pocket for this. (bar your clothes ofc before someone gets smart!)

We'd a top time - 4 hours round trip - Mickey and Adam did Donard, Me and Gareth did Commedagh. Being a new moon it was absolutely pitch dark which was cool. At the saddle and up the wall it was blowing an absolute gale but it was only to be expected. Made it to bed at about 1215. Nice one guys!

ye of little faith ;D

top night quite mild night by most standards only really felt the wind near the saddle. Conditions on the summit were rough but high winds only no rain (I think the curse has lifted).

From car to summit back to car all in 4hours 15 mins.....not bad I thought. 8)

Good nite really glad the weather stayed good. The wind on the other side of the wall was fierce.

so did I but we started later than planned so had to bump a summit.
But both we had feet on both summits just not all at the same time.

Was a great hike and at that time of night gives them hills a real feeling of remoteness even though your never more than a few hours from civilisation. I think the only thing that would have added to the trip would have been a summit camp but then there's just no pleasing me

Hope you'll join us for the next installment ;D

I think it's my first time around Donard where I haven't seen a single other person. Everyone normal was at home tucked up lovely on the sofa ;)
