You've hardly let yourself go.. But I do know how you feel.
Over the past few years due to medication and health issues my weight increased.. I was nearly 15 stone in June and eating like a horse in America didn't help.
Since then I've changed my eating habits, instead of eating Chinese or takeaway 2-3 times a week, I'm lucky if I have it once a month. I started up running and cut out all the junk food. I'm now down to 12.5 stone but would still like another stone off..
Once you start losing the pounds your confidence will soar..
If you can't get out into the hills go for long walks..

I lost a couple of stone effortlessly after listening to the all knowing Twentyclicks. He directed me to the website Marks Daily Apple, and I read a lot of the information on it. Started eating what he labels as Primal, and loved it.

Everyone thought it was a crazy idea eating like a caveman, but I loved it, and its the best I've ever felt.

At the minute I'm trying to put on a bit more muscle, so I've started *trying* to lift weights and I've strayed a wee bit from the diet plan. Being a student and trying to eat all natural doesn't really come hand in hand, but I still eat better than all of my flatmates.

I would definitely recommend that website, and before you think oh another website that claims to be the best way to lose weight, just read it. Essentially it tells you to stop eating the modern processed crap and start eating natural things like our ancestors did and start doing the amount of exercise they did.

It sounds though as if you know what to do exercise wise so I won't need to tell you to burn more calories than you take in.

Wish you the best though in your journey to further health

Lol, @ "last night", did your morning toilet run lose you a couple of pounds.

I'm around 6"1' too, and I'm 75Kg/165lbs/11.8 stone, and I would say I've got some muscle, but I would also say I was slightly overweight. So personally I would consider it overweight, but not morbidly obese. You know yourself if your overweight, providing your honest with yourself. Thats not saying though you can't be that weight and be fit. You just have to be honest with yourself again in judging if your fit.

All the best with this and fair play for giving it some thought before Christmas; you must be serious.  Have you considered though, with body fat comes insulation?  As already the coldest person I know, when whipped into shape a bit more I reckon you'll have to dress positively Himalayan for the Mournes!

This one is probably as apt as it gets
.

I've been saying since 2009 that I was going to try and increase my level of fitness, not so much from a weight perspective as lung capacity. A couple of decades of smoking still has me seriously below par. Though in 3 years I've not made it too far :(

this one came more to my mind  ;D

Insulation can only trap heat generated. I'm the slimmest in our house and the warmest...good metabolism, blood always flowing  :)

Diet will lose the excess, but the exercise will speed it up and give you the physical look and capabilities you are after.
It's a good idea to just get started when the notion takes you, rather than wait for a 'new year resolution'. You sound like you were a beast at the conditioning, and the link Oisin put up about the Primal 101 is definitely worth a read: understanding why something is good/bad for you or what works/doesn't can help make decisions rather than relying on motivation alone.

I have been very primal before, but have reintroduced certain things and don't have time/money for others. Some of the best ultra-runners in Ireland are no-carb, but I am just not efficient enough at running and can't keep up the miles without some. I still avoid rice/pasta/cereal and most bread, and weigh each portion of carbs to be mindful that I'm eating it. If your exercise is shorter bursts you can certainly cut well back.

Now get to it  ;D
