Beginners Astronomy Telescope
« on: November 18, 2009 »

It's come up a few times that people are quite interested in astronomy and have asked about scopes. I just ordered myself one of these:

FirstScope Telescope - General Features
  • Named Official Product of International Year of Astronomy 2009, FirstScope pays tribute to the men and women who brought us one step closer to understanding the universe around us!
  • High quality Dobsonian style stand with a 76 mm reflector optical tube make FirstScope an ideal entry level astronomical telescope.
  • Portable and lighweight table-top design makes it easy to store, transport and setup your FirstScope Telescope
  • FirstScope is very easy to observe with, the user simply navigates the night sky by moving the tube in the direction of their desired object.
  • Stylish and decorative design makes FirstScope a wonderful keepsake for anyone interested in astronomy.

It's officially endorsed by the IYA2009 and priced at a very reasonable £44.94 delivered. It wont be like the Hubble but should be more than enough to get a decent start in amateur astronomy.

Not a bad wee scope to get you started.

I have the Meade ETX70 and am thinking if upgrading to that one that you have shown.

Looks good.

I think it's reasonably priced to promote astronomy since this is a celebratory year (400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei). So get'em while their hot :)
