Title: More Recent Camps
Post by: seanbranagh on May 16, 2018
Still working my way around camping on all of the Mourne 500's (I am at 17 of 39 now) and also preparing for the Mourne Wall challenge in less than two weeks, I have been trying to get up as much as I can recently. Thankfully I have been lucky with the weather too.

Binnian North Tor last Sunday night, the night before may day. All I can say is that on the way home I was glad I was in the traffic OUT of Newcastle!!
It was a good night though. A bit difficult trying to find even ground for the tent. I went up over the summit to get there and continued on down the next morning toward Lamagan. They are doing a lot of work to the path down that side of Binnian. Much needed and very much appreciated.

Bearnagh North Tor on Friday night past. What a spot!!
It had been a few years since I had been right up to the North Tor on Bearnagh since the beaten track from the summit goes around a little lower down. My memory was telling me that there was a little grassy area up there that should be OK for a camp. It turns out to be even better than I had remembered. There was some light cloud moving through The Mournes also which made it even nicer. Much colder than it had been at the start of the week on Binnian though.

I got up for sunrise on may day at 5.36. It came up over the southern slopes of Donard.

A lot of fantastic work going on to maintain the path on Binnian heading down toward Lamagan.

On Friday I headed up over the summit of Bearnagh from Meelmore side. I love the ascent up that side. Good and steep.

There was some cloud passing through which looked pretty cool.

The perfect camping spot, looking north right at Bearnagh's North Tor. Photo from Saturday morning.

Excellent Sean, the sunrise over Donard photo is a winner! Good luck with The Mournes Wall, you're firing through the 500's. Thanks for the info about the grassy spot and path on Bearnagh, that's on the list!
