Spartan Red Sox Walking Club
« on: May 05, 2009 »

Formed in 1979, we organise day walks, week and weekend trips in Ireland-sometimes further afield-and social events. The club organises the Mourne Seven Sevens challenge event each August, which draws an international entry. There is a walk on most Saturdays throughout the year, organised and led by a club member. Information about a particular event can be obtained from this leader. Visitors who intend to walk with us should contact the leader on the Wed/Thurs evening beforehand. When using shared transport, we expect members to contribute to transport costs.

There are over 100 members, current subscription being £13 per individual (£18 per couple). Membership is not available to those under 18 years of age. Members are fully covered by our Civil Liability insurance policy. Visitors are welcome and may, under this policy, walk with us for TWO walks only. If they then wish to continue, we expect entrance into full membership by payment of the annual subscription to the Treasurer.

We are members of the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs and the Mountaineering Council of Ireland. Our annual subscription entitles members to current copies of the Irish Mountain Log-the journal of the Mountaineering Council of Ireland.

Whilst we make every effort to ensure safety, each person takes part entirely at their own risk. Neither the club nor its members can be held responsible for loss, injury or damage, howsoever sustained. Each individual MUST come properly equipped for outdoor activity. Walking boots are ESSENTIAL. Clothing needs to be warm and water and windproof. Bring a rucksack, packed lunch, hot drink and water on all walks. PLEASE do not bring a dog-we often walk in sheep country and wish to maintain good relations with the farming community.

Further details may be obtained from the Hon Secretary or from any club member. Hon Secretary: Nigel Whiteside, 203 Dunluce Avenue, Belfast, BT9 5GZ, Tel (028) 9028 6463
