New Gruffalo Trail Open at Colin Glen
« on: December 04, 2015 »

Quote
The characters from the much loved picture book, The Gruffalo, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, have been brought to life along a brand new trail at Colin Glen Forest Park in Belfast.

With each character magically recreated by sculptor Andrew McIntyre and set against the backdrop of a stunning forest park this family attraction is sure to get the kids (and parents!) out walking. From entering through the Gruffalo Archway, through the forest park to a beautiful Gruffalo themed seating area next to the cascading Colin River, your children will be completely amazed at meeting their favourite Gruffalo characters, whilst getting out in the fresh air.

Looks like fun...

I was in Colin Glen in the summer for the first time (Never knew it even existed) taking part in an organised fossil hunt.  It was a great day out for the kids and we found some interesting booty:

Mostly fossilised salt water clam shells and a bit of an ammonite, but considering that they were found in a river bed approximately 100 metres above sea level, and 7 miles away from the nearest sea (Belfast Lough) it just goes to show how sea levels in Belfast have changed over the last few million years.

I had planned to take another walk up and spend a bit more time fossil hunting but totally forgot about it.  Think I'll head up the Gruffalo trail soon with the kids and see if we can find a few more fossils at the same time  :)
