Title: Wildfire management - Eastern Mournes
Post by: Peter Walker on March 03, 2016
Hi folks

I sit on the Mourne Outdoor Recreation Forum, and its members have been asked to publicize wildfire management steps being taken in the near future...

"Folks, you will be aware that there is a wildfire prevention plan for the Eastern Mournes. This includes plans for prescribed burning to be carried out at critical sites to remove the fuel load, which changes the rate of spread of a wildfire. This gives NIFRS and other responding bodies a chance to intervene.

As part of this, please see the attached information about prescribed burning that will be taking place at Bloody Bridge on the route up to the Mourne Wall. This will be from Monday 7 March until Thursday 24 March 2016, and then Monday 4 April until Tuesday 12 April 2016. The aim is to avoid weekends and the Easter holidays as it is a busy access corridor. The work is completely weather dependent and as a result is likely to be on and off during the above period.

Routes will not be closed, but there may be delays while a particular action is carried out, and there will be marshals providing information on site.

I should be most grateful if you could inform your wider colleagues, club members etc."

Anyone with any queries should contact Matthew Bushby at MHT.
