Antrim Hills Weekend - 20/21 Mar 10
« on: March 21, 2010 »

Me and Billy Backpack squeezed in a quick overnighter in the Antrim Hills kicking off at 6pm Saturday and home again Sunday at lunch.

We did just shy of 12 miles on Saturday night crossing over Salagh Brae and arriving at Capanagh Wood at about 1130pm. We had some truly awesome steaks cooked on a pocket rocket with pasta and a relaxing beer and settled down for a bivvy. On Sunday we were going to do Agnews Hill but the trek across rough ground was potentially too slow going for us to meet our 1pm lift so we took a more direct 5 mile route to Ballyboley Forest.

All in all, an awesome nights walking and I can still taste the steaks. Mmmmm.

Mmmm... steak! :)  Did you get a chance to try the wee Vango stove out?

Was a cracking weekend weather wise, looks like a nice route and spot to camp!

Crackin trip and I must say the first part that took place mostly in the dark was pretty awesome. We found a decent camp spot and it was really calm and so quiet I was glad J brought the hobo stove for a bit of a fire, we both agreed that the route and camp spot would be good for a meet.

As far as I could see the Vango and the Pocket rocket are almost identical and it worked a treat.

We'll have to get you out there Jon for a bivy  ;D

I can't rate the steak highly enough. I know that outdoors at midnight after a 5 hour, 11 mile walk you could probably happily chew on an old boot because everything tastes a bit better but those steaks are potentially the best meat I've ever had...
