Bushcraft Days at Carnfunnock
« on: March 03, 2010 »

The Northern Ireland Bushcraft Association (NIBA) are holding 2 free Bushcraft days at Carnfunnock Country Park, just outside Larne on the Coast Road. They are on the 17th and 18th of April 2010 and will comprise a Shelter building day and a Wild food/plant day. Numbers are limited so booking with the park is advisable. It's all free though. Please contact Carnfunnock Country park for more details.

This was a fantastic event, I am so glad I attended. I must say I was apprehensive as I thought the niba fellas would maybe not be up to much but they have some knowledge between them. There was a big attendance at both days I'm glad I booked. The wild food was great the guy taking it knew his stuff and he talked about the plants and trees being either edible or for medicine or for using like making string and useful stuff. It was about 2 hours or more and the amount of things he I'd and you could use was hard to take in I wish I had written it down. The shelter building day on Sunday was great fun there was about 18 of us men and women and children and we got an intro fro
the fella who did the wild food from the day before and then we got spilt into 2 groups and the other Nina guys showed us how to build the shelters. It's a lot harder than I thought! They explained about the reason for shelter what they vould be made from and the detail of making water tight etc. I appreciate a lot more how hard it really is! I will certainly be booking into the next course they run. Thanks again to Davy Fary and Phil for a great 2 days. The event also made the Belfast telegraph today page 3!!
