Lagan Lands East
« on: November 08, 2018 »

Hi

I haven't lived in the Ormeau area that long and thought I'd go and explore Lagan Lands East just off Annandale Embankment.  I google mapped it first, looked nice and green.  However I was gutted to find that the place was covered in rubbish.  Looks like a bit of drinking spot for teenagers. The green paths I can see on google maps seems to be replaced with lose stones, with some steel fencing put up around the place.  Any idea what is going on, are they doing some development work?

Anyway, I walked a bit further and came across a few apple trees.  Anyone know what type of apples they are and, if edible, what they could be used for?

Hi Michael
There was a plan to build a footbridge in that area close to the weir. The contractor laid gravel and put up fencing and then work stopped, leaving it looking awful. I heard a rumour that the contract company got into financial trouble. The area is popular with teenage drinkers unfortunately.

Sorry, forgot to say, there were orchards in that area many years ago. I have seen apples and pears growing there.
