Yeah spent a couple of hours trudging through areas off the beaten track a bit before finding this wee spot. It's not easy finding areas free from mountain bike trails up there and this wee spot was also free of any rubbish or old fire pits which is a good indication nobody really enters this bit of of the woodland.
Will definitely have to get another wee night up there before Christmas.

Btw Glen I was in the area of that tower many years ago,the mushrooms in your photo look like honey fungus. If so they are deadly to the host tree, but edible, you only eat the caps as the stalks are tough.you boil them in salted water for 2mins, this removes a mild toxin, (discard water) then sautée them in a little butter, onion, garlic and basil, thicken with cream and serve over pasta.Tasty.

You make them sound lovely but I'm a bit of s chicken when it comes to wild mushrooms mainly because I know nothing about them and don't fancy poisoning myself lol.

It's a lovely place Glenn.  I was only ever in it once when I did the Clandeboye Way.  Those big old forests are great, much nicer than the uniform densely-planted coniferous plantations.
