Mulled Wine Recipes
« on: December 12, 2011 »

At the Xmas camp we had a variety of really nice mulled wines. Could anyone with a recipe post it here so others can have a go at making some, as a winter warmer around the fire it really is scrumptious. (Please also post amounts of ingredients as the ratios are pretty important)

I went with the Schwartz mulled wine sachets.  They were basically:

75 cl of Red Wine
200 ml of water (I went for 150ml water, 50ml pure orange juice)
4 tbsps brown sugar
2 Schwartz sachets

I then added another cinnamon stick and some cloves, then some chopped apples and oranges for something to munch when you get to the bottom of the cup.

Obviously everything was just mutlipied for the quantity of wine used.

Everything was just thrown in together, just making sure the sugar was dissolved.

I had looked at the Jamie Oliver recipe which talks about working up a syrup before adding all the wine.  It sounded intriguing but there was lots of debate below the recipe about tweaks to the recipe, so thought it would be better to try in the house sometime first.  Besides I haven't a clue what "star anise" is!

The best mulled wine I had was some years ago, the guy making it put a quarter bottle of brandy in it, it was rocket fuel!!  ;D warmed the cockles thats for sure!  ;)

I agree with WhoRya his recipe is spot on and the addition of a spot of brandy really helps to add depth to the mulled wine ,
but just add about one measure per bottle of wine otherwise the party guests get ratassed .
