« on: November 10, 2014 »

We spotted this at the weekend which I thought was a bit of a new low.

that's shocking, I still can not figure out why people want to go out and enjoy the outdoors but leave it in this mess :(

Absolutely zero respect for scumbags that do this. I always take a rubbish bag with me when i'm out walking, just to bring down other peoples rubbish. idiots!

They're not there to enjoy the outdoors, just want to find somewhere to sit and pour alcohol down their necks without being disturbed and moved along.

Is that Annalong Wood or Donard Wood?

Thats shocking  >:(

Very annoyed by that. As stated above, these people only think about getting drunk and walking back with half their s**t still lying in the forest where they left it.

Very annoying. It looks like the work of the juvenile cider drinking community who only want to get drunk out of the sight of their single parents. Clearly they have no respect for their own environment or the other people that have to use it.

If this is typical of behavior in our Mountains . Why is there no wardens etc. Is there any outreach programmes?

Hi guys, I'm hearing that BRA are doing their 25th (!) annual mournes tidy up in the coming weeks (here's details of last years - link) Dozen's of them do it and they take a tonne of rubbish away every year.

@RedLeader: do you know if the setup in the picture is still there? If so any pointers as to where it is and we'll see if they can cover it.

Similarly if anyone has been out and about the last month, are there any particularly messy places?

Donard & Annalong Wood are always the usual culprits. What about places a bit further away? Anyone know how's Lough Shannagh/Ben Crom Shelter stone/Annalong River/Blue Lough are looking?

PM me if you prefer.

TIA

Cheers Matthew, unfortunately (unless I'm being very thick), when I convert that location to lat/long it gives me lat: N49.773510 long: W7.550926 which drops me into the middle of the sea :/

More than likely the app is a little funky. I marked it at the spot and took a screen shot. Perhaps best not rely on it.

The spot is on the first downhill section after leaving the carpark at the plant hire house. I usually use the second river as a guide and just nip across the fence there.

The usual Donard Forest camping spot is pretty clean at the moment, apart from this gate  :o (green spot on the map)

However there is an old abandoned campsite near the start of the granite trail (pink spot) that could do with a run round with the hoover.
