Well, week 4 is a bit of a step up......

Managed it, but had to push to get to the end of the last run in yesterday's session, was the first week 4 session, the rest should get easier... I hope.

Had a week off as I was sick, but now on week 5 and boy, it's ramping up quickly now!

My sister has persuaded me to do a 10K in Tollymore in November, the Marathon was a couple of bridges too far.....

At least I have a goal now.

Tollymore will be a good challenge, it's quite hilly :) Good on you!

I'm back to square one. The Asics for pronation were great for a few weeks but now that I'm wearing them regularly the shin splints are back on and off all the time.

Week 6 Run 3 tonight, was supposed to be 25 minute run.

I was feeling fine at the end of the 25 mins so decided to keep going a little further, as I had to make it home anyway.

7 minutes later I went in through my front door, having run all the way. Total distance run in 1 stretch today 5.92km on top of the 0.6km I walked during the 5 min warmup.

Pretty proud of myself!

Get yourself signed up for a race soon, you'll get a real buzz from competing, find a race near you here http://www.nirunning.co.uk/fixtures

If you're in Belfast this would suit http://www.athleticsni.org/Fixtures/Powerade-Queens-5K

Congrats on that one, it is a great feeling when you get to that point one day where you look down at your feet and realise you have just run non stop further than you have ever done before. From that point onwards every step of the run that session becomes a new distance record for you.

So ran my third 5K+ in my lunch break today, got a blister on my foot, but otherwise feeling fine.

Thanks for all your support, I guess I'm a (reluctant) runner now, still don't enjoy it but I am seeing the benefits.

So to anyone thinking of doing it: DO IT! You may not enjoy it, I don't, but the benefits are undeniable.

Look up park run. This will give you something to aim for on Saturday  mornings When you're not in the mournes.

No Parkrun in Newry, and Saturday mornings are little boy time in an event, but am definitely doing the 10K in Tollymore in November and will keep an eye out for other runs around here.

My bike is also fixed, so I'll be getting out on that again now, just alternating cycling with running.

Don't forget the mournes.  I turned fifty and can still go up and down Donard in under 2 hrs. practice running in the mournes.  Carrick little track brandy pad accross to Doan etc.fabulous. especially in the summer months with a dip in one of the loughs. Fantasti-co!!!

There's a 5k walk/run near Newry this weekend http://www.athleticsni.org/Fixtures/Dromintee-Rocky-Road-Challenge , with a 10k option!
