Camping on the summint of Bernagh 05/09/09
« on: September 07, 2009 »

The Bernagh trip was a great weekend and as it turns out, I can make it to the top without being sick. However, making it down is much harder :D

More thoughts later!

Hares Gap in the distance

Summit of Bernagh

Walking towards Hares Gap

A quick rest at Hares Gap

Then up the steps

And the summit is ahead

It's hard going with no path

View back down to Hares Gap with the wall following up Slievenaglogh

At the first tor

Billy_Backpack walking the wall

View from the other, higher tor

Relaxing at the top

Extreme checkers

Getting dinner on the go

The campsite from the higher tor

Sunset

Scrambling up to the top of the higher tor

With no way to light a fire, once the sun goes down it gets cold and dark quickly

Shooting the breeze

Breaking camp in the morning

A fox in the clouds

Probably one of the more random couple days up on the hills but certainly worthwhile! Good weather good bant, what else could you ask for?

Thought I'd add my pictures from the weekend. The first 4 are from earlier on in the day (as is the second last) before meeting up with the rest of the lads. Message me if you want me to mail you the pics

Donard from Cove Mountain, Slieve Beg in the middle ground

Left to right :Slieve Meelbeg, Slieve Bearnagh (Sumit Tor, North Tor), Hares Gap; from Cove Mountain

Slieve Beg in the foreground, Slieve Donard in the back, from Cove Mountain

Slieve Bearnagh, from a reentrant on the main path below Corragh

The view from Summit Tor, Ben Crom is in the middleground, seperating Ben Crom resevoir and Slient Valley resevoir

The viewfrom our pitch. Not too shabby a view to wake up to!

Sunset over Slieve Meelbeg from Summit Tor

And again

A near full moon was out, and gave off enough light to dispose of headtorches

The clouds were in close for the entire morning limiting views, but cleared away for snippets of scenery

Descending to the saddle between Slieve Bearnagh and Slieve Meelmore

Group photo at the stile between Slieve Bearnagh and Slieve Meelmore

Theres a valley down there somewhere

From whence we came

Trassey river with views Slieve Bearnagh in the distance (taken the day before, hence no cloud coverage)

The view from the lane of Meelmore Lodge

Those are great photos, my camera totally craps out unless the light is just right.

What was your route up to Bernagh?

Jst another one to praise the pro action once again! I know its a one man but we had no problem fitting two into it, it stood up well against wind despite me pitching it side on! and as you can see from the pics it looks the part beside the likes of terra nova and the north face, best £25 I ever spent!

Had forgotten about the cat and dog story, LOL :D

Chris you are certainly up for it, maybe I'm just lazy but that seemed hardcore coming up the hill in the dark, I would probably have binned it

666_pack theres a pro action still in the bangor argos if you really want one? £18 plus a couple quid for petrol ?

Wolf_Larson if you found that leatherman in tollymore then its mine! Lost one while setting up an orienteering course there a year back! I was ragin, however It is a bit too heavy to carry about when the only thing I ever used was the blade!

A bit of computer editing on the photos can make them look a bit better than they really are!
