Mostly do sea fishing from the rocks hopefully be getting a boat if I can find one . Took up fly fishing last year and I am not sure if it hates me or I hate it still learning :) never tried the pike fishing but I hear it could fill a void in the winter months

nice one , check gumtree for boats. flyfishings great once u get the hang of casting, a floating line is easier to lift of water when practicing, pikes great in winter infact all year is good but winter is best before they spawn around easter. sit on top kayaks r all the go now for fishing easy to store n transport.

I will fish for anything really depending on the location and time of year. I enjoy pike fishing the most as after I caught my first big pike nothing else seems to be as exciting!

There’s nothing quite like catching a roach or a perch with a maggot or worm, then putting it on a wire trace for the pike!

I dont have a car so have to keep it pretty local at the minute - There are a few great pike lakes around the Ballynahinch area that are fishing well at the minute.

Hi wildwesty,

Im from the ballynahinch area and looking to get back into a spot of fishing - used to do a lot more but have to admit that in the past few years have been confined to mackie bashing off the rocks at ardglass....

where do you head (oh and what price are licences nowadays?)

Brian ;D

LOL - I don’t have a license and never have - simply because the places i fish you would never ever in a million years see a bailiff. If I am going somewhere I just buy a three day pass from the local fishing shop!  I’m from Lilburn but do a lot of my fishing down there. basically all the lakes you would pass from Lilburn to ballynahinch hold pike!

I do have a couple of favourites but don’t really want to put them on hear for obvious reasons! :)

hehehe thats deadon - can understand wanting to keep personal favourites private.

have you ever fished the big lake on the belfast road? have often seen people round about it.
Just wondering about access - is it necessary to seek out the landowner or can you just turn up rod in hand?

apologies about the million questions - have lost my way with this whole thing  ;D
