Waterproof firelighters
« on: February 16, 2015 »

Can't take any credit for this apart from seeing it and sharing here. It is just a simple twist on the cotton wool & vaseline concept. So simple you kick yourself and wonder why you hadn't thought of it sooner.

That is pretty clever. I've never used vaseline and cotton wool, only wax and wool. Is it messy?

Here's the blog on the wax ones

I use vasealean and cotton wool all the time, greart stuff, and sometimes make my own storm matchs useing fat wood as the stick and coat the sulpher/phosphorus,  with wax to water proof them, just scrape the wax off before you strike them, you can never have  enough sources of fire i think,, birch bark is great in the wet along with pine resin, and spliting and fethering the wood helps a lot too
