Camping near Blue lough
« on: May 14, 2015 »

Hi I used to walk in the Mournes quite a bit, but since children I havnt got to do much. I would like to go back to a spot I really loved. The Blue lough near Binnian and camp overnight with my children now in their teens. Has anyone camped there is it ok. I am assuming that because it's quite far in there are no groups of  youths camping there - I like my sleep!.any info welcome

Thanks Fiona

Hi Fiona

Camped near there over the hill on Annalong river in April.  See video here

It features Blue lough as we took a dander up after pitching.

It's a very accessible spot being just up the Annalong Valley and should be quiet enough as the youths would be unlikely to pass up the easier opportunity of Annalong Wood that you'd walk by on the way there. Midge central in the summer though, might want some insect repellant and/or head nets for the kids unless there's a stiff breeze  :)

It was my intention to camp there last night but I had a bit of trouble with the wind!

It seems that people have been burning some odd things by the water. A fire pit at the far side had big, long clumps of some kind of animal hair. A little strange.

Yea i saw that too but on closer inspection i discovered it was a burnt tent and that was the fibres from the poles that looks like hair

Ah! That makes sense. I had read your last comment before going, and thought to myself that it surely doesn't look a thing like a burnt plastic tent. Fiberglass tent poles stand to reason, that was well worked out!
