Ahoy! :D
« on: August 14, 2015 »

Hey! I'm 18, live in the BELFAST area, can't yet drive and I want to spend the rest of my summer doing something productive! I've been hiking with friends a few times in the Mournes, I don't mind the more crazy stuff like the Devil's Coach Road and what not.

I've done my DofE gold, but that was canoeing in Sligo! :D

My left leg is slightly shorter than the right which means I have a slight limp and I go at a slightly slower pace when just walking after a while. It doesn't affect me though when I do other stuff like going up the Devil's Coach Road or climbing down terrain that isn't just walking. It only affects me when I'm just plainly walking. (You can enquire further about this if you want, no worries.)

Other than that, I'm up for any Mournes stuff, Gorge walking, canoeing or climbing (only done a wall a couple of times, but there's a first for everything! :D)

If you need/want a +1 don't delay! Message me today if you are also able to give me a lift!  ;D

Welcome to the forum Byron, hope you manage to make the most of the summer. Lack of transport can be a real stumbling block for getting about but don't forget about the Mourne Rambler bus service, its good for getting dropped of at one end of the mournes so you can dander back to Newcastle. There's also the AIMSS bus for larger groups too. http://www.mourneshuttle.co.uk/shuttleservice.html

An 18 year old looking to do something productive over the summer. First I've heard :P

Welcome to the forum, fingers crossed you get some hiking done. The bus is defo an option if you can't motivate someone here. You can get the bus from Belfast to Newcastle and the Mourne Rambler into the foothills.

Also, if you're from Belfast there's always Black Mountain and Cave Hill which both have decent walks and are very accessible by bus. If you aren't completely committed to hills there are also lots of great flat routes accessible from Belfast like the North Down Coastal Path or Clandeboye Way.
