Silent Valley to Donard Car Park
« on: July 27, 2015 »

To all the Mournites... Wife and I looking to walk from Silent Valley (Mourne Rambler) to Slieve Donard Car Park. Really want to take in that side of the Mournes.

1. What is the Journey time - Reasonably fit so looking to see how long for completion?
2. Camping in Tollymore  welcome to other suggestions ?
3. What peaks would we have to tick off?

Would appreciate any feedback , thanks

I was thinking of doing something similar while the Rambler bus is running, starting from the Banns road.

I'm avoiding any peak here except Doan, but I would probably end up completing this on Donard. I would say 5 hours would be a very safe estimate for this.

If you wanted to bag peaks you could do Silent Valley, Binnian, Lamagan, Cove, Beg and then drop down into Donard Wood to camp. Would be quite the trek carrying all the gear for an overnight though :) Could also skip Binnian and head straight onto Lamagan to make it a bit easier.

Could also do Silent Valley - Hares Gap - Brandy Pad - (Donad summmt if you wanted) - Donard Forest to camp

View ranger gives it around 9 so its doable in a day with day sacks whilst enjoying it. Just need the weather lol
