Fresh Drinking water in Mournes
« on: June 17, 2013 »

Hi All,

I know that a few people say that its ok to drink the fast flowing water from streams, and others say not to...is there any springs around the Mournes similar to that on Commedagh?  Just something Ive wondered about as its good to know.  Appreciate any feedback!

Hi There
The one on Commedagh is the only one that I know about but I think that the water in the higher streams is fine. Enjoy it, its better than Belfast tap water.

I've drunk water straight out of the Dam with no problems. But then again I've also picked up moss and squeezed out the water and also had no problems :) ..... I must say tho that it's quite liberating when you go for the drink from streams approach. Somehow I feel closer to nature for doing it. Almost like the environment is providing for my needs.

I've peed straight into the dam with no problems  ;)

Er, I can't make that my sole contribution to a thread on "Drinking water in the Mournes" ;D

I too have drunk straight from the reservoir and rivers without any problems.
