Barrells (blue) for canoe trips
« on: July 15, 2009 »

Any advice on where to get a couple of blue barrells for an open boat trip?  Mid size not the huge barrells.

Cheers

I got one sent to me from a chap in England through the Song of the Paddle forum. I'm honestly not sure where they even come from though. I'm sure you could find one locally if you knew what they're actually used for.

A Lot of canoe shops sell them, but I don't think they're designed as canoe barrels.  I've heard them called Olive Barrels, so maybe they're used to import olives?

Read on Song of The Paddle forum that often Indian Restaurants get them in as they contain Mango Chutney etc. Worth asking maybe.

There was a guy on SoTP giving them away for cost of postage, he collected them for canoeists.

www.brookbankcanoes.co.uk sell barrels for 30litres... £16.99
60litres... £21.99  though postage might be the killer for you but these barrels are specifically designed for open boat use and guaranteed 100% waterproof. You should also try the buyandsell or adsforfree i seen barrels in it a month ago free to good home pity i hadnt seen this post earlier

Good luck with them i'll keep my eyes peeled for some, i work in construction and come across them every now and again and if they arent bolted down they will be in the back of my van!

Regards,

David

Cheers David I appreciate that....

Have mangaed to get a few posted over from england - not exactly what I was wanting but a good deal cheaper (can you believe some people wanting nearly £50 for a barrel) - I'll let you know how they work out - planning a wee trip at the end of the month
