*waves sheepishly*
« on: November 21, 2016 »

Hello all - I can't even say I am new to rambling/hiking as I haven't even ventured out yet!  I am James, 36, and I have just recently moved back to the Ballymena area, and would love to start foraying out into the Glens / North Coast area.  While my experience is limited, my enthusiasm is strong.

Looking forward to chatting to some of you here hopefully and getting some advice - possibly more along the 'do-not-do's' even more than the 'do's'!

Thanks all

James

Welcome James. Plenty to do around Ballymena between the Glens and North Coast. You wont be short of places to go. Just get an OS map and get out for a dander  8)

Hi James, welcome to the forum.

Have a read of this recent article from your local area... you'll find plenty of do-not-do's in here lol:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-38045428

Always plan ahead, get a reliable weather forecast, know what time the sun goes down and always let somebody know where you are going and when to expect you home.

Put a Day Sack on your Santa list and start gathering together a bit of kit to fill it with.  First Aid Kit, Swiss Army Knife, Emergency Foil Blanket, Survival Bag, Head Torch, Spare Batteries, Mobile Phone, Portable USB Charger and charger lead, Head-to-toe waterproofs, Zippo Lighter, Lighter Fluid, and Spare Flints.

All of these will will make you more comfortable if the unexpected happens.

Hopefully that gives you something to get you started and I'm sure other members will be able to add a few things that I haven't mentioned.
