Redbull Foxhunt Cavehill
« on: November 23, 2012 »

Redbull Foxhunt rolls into town this weekend.

Downhill MTB legend Gee Atherton is just one of the many famous riders returning to Ireland at the end of November to re-join the Red Bull Foxhunt.

The multiple World Cup winner will once again saddle up for Red Bull Foxhunt, an innovative downhill pursuit challenge where the hunters become the hunted.

In 2011, Wicklow’s Ballinastoe Woods hosted the inaugural event, with former Irish Olympian Robin Seymour taking the ultimate honours. Gee 'The Fox' Atherton managed to battle his way from the back of the field to claim sixth place, having hunted down almost 300 competitors.

This year’s event will take place in the picturesque surrounds of Belfast’s iconic Cave Hill Country Park. The challenging course, designed in conjunction with Belfast’s Plush Mountain Bike club, will begin at the park’s highest point, Napoleon’s Nose, before descending through moorland and forest to a sprint finish in the grounds of Belfast Castle.

Red Bull Foxhunt is a light-hearted play on the traditional and somewhat controversial past time of foxhunting. However, in Red Bull Foxhunt the roles are reversed. The fox, Gee Atherton, will chase down the hunt (comprised of all levels of downhill competencies) in a downhill cross-country MTB chase. The event is open to downhillers from all over Ireland and will once again have a mass-start format.

This epic course is not for the faint-hearted and is guaranteed to give both Gee and the massed hunters a seriously tough challenge. As The fox, Gee will be set free just after the main group and will attempt to fight his way past as many riders as possible. Each rider he passes is then eliminated.

By the time he reaches the finish line, the fox will hope to have satisfied his thirst for victory and captured all riders.

Red Bull Foxhunt takes place on November 24-25, 2012, over two days. with qualifying heats on Saturday November 24 and the event proper on Sunday November 25. The venue is Cave Hill Country Park, Belfast.

What an amazing two days  ;D  Still buzzing after the event.

Just a pity that some tried to sabotage the track which could have resulted in serious injury.

Some great photos for the scrapbook alright.  The start line I am somewhere over on the left near a couple of guys in red.  Second one I am stuck in that pack somewhere near the middle to back.  Gears sticking so got a terrible start.

This is me over the finish line jump.

The one Kayakgirl mentioned (Cheers btw)

Ah I only wish that was me.  ;D That was the ex World Champion Gee Atherton.

If he went over that edge it would be certain death.  Thats a 3-400ft Drop Straight down.  I wouldnt have been attempting that.
